Causa Prima

Causa Prima is building the first agent-to-agent platform for both sides of every B2B transaction — AI agents that automate accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management for the office of the CFO, and negotiate directly with the agents on the other side of each transaction.

Where today's finance tools digitize paperwork, Causa Prima's agents act on top of any system of record. The software is free to use; Causa Prima earns only when it helps move money on better terms. The long-term vision is an agent-to-agent network spanning the entire B2B financial supply chain.

What Causa Prima does today

The first release focuses on the office of the CFO, with a human in the loop on every external action:

  • Accounts payable — autonomous invoice validation (PO and goods-receipt matching, pricing-discrepancy and anomaly detection) and agent-driven negotiation of early-payment discounts with suppliers.
  • Accounts receivable — dispute intake and validation, payment-term enforcement, dunning, and early-payment discount offers to customers.
  • Cash management — real-time multi-currency cash and wallet balances, plus probabilistic cash forecasting with liquidity alerts.
  • Counterparty view — a magic-link view that lets a supplier or customer see invoice status, disputes and promises without creating an account.

Causa Prima integrates with the tools companies already use (email, Google Drive, Slack to start) rather than replacing the system of record.

The agent-to-agent thesis

Every B2B payment depends on two people on opposite sides reaching each other at the right time. Emails get lost, approvals stall, people go on vacation. Tools that automate only the buyer side (AP) or only the supplier side (AR) make one half of a broken handoff faster. Causa Prima puts an agent on both sides, with a shared context graph and human-defined guardrails, so the back-and-forth resolves itself and money moves on the right terms.

How Causa Prima fits with your stack

Causa Prima is an execution layer, not another system of record. It sits on top of the ERP, accounting suite, and AP/AR tools a company already runs — reading what it needs, acting where it helps, and never asking anyone to rip and replace. Most finance software lives inside one company's walls: AP tools serve the buyer, AR tools serve the supplier. The work that actually stalls happens in the handoff between two companies, where no single system has authority. That is the gap Causa Prima is built for — which makes it complementary to the tools you already have, not a replacement for them.

Why now

Four forces are converging for the first time:

  • AI maturity — non-deterministic agent workflows can finally run multi-step finance work end to end, not just draft a suggestion for a human to finish.
  • Agent-native workflows — agents can now hold context and act across systems and company boundaries, the missing piece for cross-company finance.
  • Enterprise software at end of life — the last generation automated paperwork but not the underlying processes; AP/AR teams remain the largest manual cost center in finance.
  • The cost of doing it by hand — the numbers make the case on their own.

The evidence behind that last point:

  • ~$90 trillion moves between businesses every year.
  • 68% of companies still key invoice data manually (IOFM, 2024).
  • Manual AP costs roughly $28,500 per employee per year in lost productivity (Ardent Partners, 2024).
  • 62% of transaction cost is labor.

Who we are

Causa Prima is built by a founding team that has built, scaled and exited companies across AP automation, institutional finance, and security — and has spent decades moving serious money between businesses.

  • Maex (Markus) Ament — Co-Founder & CEO. Roughly 25 years in accounts payable and the financial supply chain. He started his career at SAP building payment solutions, then co-founded Ebydos (acquired by ReadSoft) and served as ReadSoft's CTO. He went on to co-found Taulia and was its Chief Product Officer through its acquisition by SAP, and later co-founded and led Centrifuge (tokenized real-world assets). He is also an active angel investor across 150+ companies. Master's in Mathematics, RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. LinkedIn.
  • Henrik Gebbing — Co-Founder & COO. He co-founded Finoa and scaled it into the first regulated institutional digital-asset custodian in the EU (€10B AUM), stepping back after eight years. Earlier he was a Senior Consultant at McKinsey & Company. He holds an MBA from IE Business School, where he is a guest lecturer, and an M.Sc. in Marketing from Golden Gate University (Fulbright Scholarship). LinkedIn.
  • Philip Stanislaus — Co-Founder & CTO. He co-founded and was Managing Partner of Oak Security, which has run 600+ security audits, and earlier worked on blockchain architecture at Snowfork and Centrifuge. He holds an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge. LinkedIn.
